On the dignity of human life...

The Vatican says same-sex marriage is an attack on the fabric of society. Not exactly surprising, but I still don't get the whole 'fabric of society' thing. The fact that a friend of mine is today marrying her partner here in MA (ooh, congratulations, you know who you are!) does not mark a "defeat for the dignity of human life." And if you think it does, I'm sorry, but you really don't understand what the dignity of human life is all about.

It's a good thing that I persisted with the CT thread about women bloggers as far as your comment, because it was tremendously heartening to hear another call for "private intellectuals." I had not until today actually regarded CT as an academic Web log, and I'm not sure how happy I am to learn that, even in the blogosphere, its authors regard themselves as academics.

I'll be following your site from now on, even though I'm suffering (momentarily) from political fatigue. (You can see how I'm recovering at The Daily Blague.
